TIPS TO KEEP YOUR WHITES CLEAN
When it comes to wearing white - which shows every smudge, stain and speck of dirt - lifestyle advice author and nationally syndicated columnist Heloise has a trio of helpful hints:
• Jackets/pants: You're out for a meal, and salad dressing, sauce or iced tea drips onto your white garment. What to do? Reach for a packet of artificial sweetener immediately. Pat it onto the area to absorb the liquid. Let set, brush off. Dip a white table napkin into a bit of water and blot the area to pull off any remaining stain.
• Shoes/sandals: To remove a scuff on white shoes, use a pencil eraser, an art gum eraser or a piece of soft white mushy bread. White correction fluid also will cover the scuff. Last resort? White nail polish.
• Handbag/tote: If it's straw or fabric, a few drops of a mild liquid dish soap in a cup of water should do the trick. A microfiber cloth really helps pick up the dirt. Don't saturate. Dab with a clean cloth dampened with water to remove the soap.
